Marseille Signs Mason Greenwood from Manchester United Amid Mixed Reactions

Kombouar has indeed clinched striker Mason Greenwood from Manchester United in a deal that has incensed some sections of the club’s fans.

Greenwood, 22, who has one international cap for England, is facing attempted rape and sexual assault charges; Manchester United suspended him in January 2022. Those charges were dropped in February 2023. He last season played for Getafe where he was loaned to the La Liga side.

This announcement did not respond to the previous allegations, but Marseille defined Greenwood as a ‘precocious talent,’ an ‘English nugget. ’ Greenwood the new face for Marseille who will don the number 10 shirt was able to avail a medical test. Before the deal was sealed, the mayor of Marseille left-wing Benoit Payan was fully against the deal due to the shame that the club stands to suffer.

Marseille has another friendly match coming up against Sunderland on August 3, this could turn out to be Greenwood’s first friendly match in England after his arrest in January 2022.
