Karl Urban who portrays Billy Butcher in “The Boys” noted that the forthcoming series shall be the fifth and last season and shall be premiered in 2026. He disclosed this to his fans through his social media account with some behind-the-scenes pictures of him and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the actor who portrays Joe Kessler on the show. Urban said, that the new season is planned to be released not earlier than in two years, which hints at the summer 2026 release.
All that developed following a bloody shoot-out in the last episode of the season: the team has been captured by Vought soldiers; Homelander has become the leader of a super army after martial law was declared. However, Butcher is now off-running from point A to point B with the superhero virus. The budget for the last season os planned to be released in November 2024 and the shooting of the season will finish in 2025. Yeah, the timing should be extended so that the series can be concluded in a satisfying manner.
Not only I hear about the main new series but the continuation of the series is an array of spinoffs that may contribute to the final new season’s story. The sequel to ‘Gen V’ will explore the consequences of Godolkin’s virus which is an important theme of the fourth season of ‘The Boys’. Another spinoff, “The Boys: Mexico,” is also in development and could bring the introduction of new elements the plot of which could be used in the creation of season 5. This implies that the last season might just as well be intertwined with the spin-offs as perhaps it was thought earlier.
Urban accepted the long wait explaining that it is better to take time and create a perfect piece of work. The time also used in concocting the last episodes gives the production team an opportunity to fashion each episode in such a way that it makes a strong collective contribution to the narrative’s denouement. Simply put, Homelander getting stronger and many open storylines to address, hints at a satisfying conclusion in season 5, even if it might be a few years away.
