Eight Carriages Destroyed, Dozens Hurt in Russian Train Disaster

South Russian train crash leaves 140 injured at least with a train with 800 passengers having collided with a truck at a level crossing leaving eight carriages to derail, Russian Railways said on Monday.

The train, originating from Kazan the capital of Tatarstan, heading to Adler on the Black Sea had its driver aggressively hit the train brake pins on sighting the Kamaz truck. According to the report by the Russian Railways, the truck driver had blundered the traffic rules whereby he proceeded to the crossing despite alarms.

The accident took place at Zhelezinodolsk Lastochka station in the southern Volgograd region, 750 miles from Moscow; the train rammed into the truck at a speed of 65 kph.

About 140 people got injured, some of them were victims of knife attack, Russian Railways said, adding that 15 people, among them three children, were hospitalized.

The impact of the collision launched the truck driver 15 meters (50 feet) away; the Mash Telegram channel posted a video revealing the semi’s mangled cab and a severely injured driver.

Earlier Mash claimed there were two people killed in the accident, however, Russian authorities did not endorse this. Actual video and photo clips were received from the state news agency TASS where it was possible to see the destroyed wagons some of which turned to scrap.

The emergency ministry in Russia added that fire and rescue teams are striving to help people release trapped passengers, Overall, nine carriages are reported to have been torn from the tracks.
