Airlines Ground Flights to Beirut Amid Rising Tensions

European Airlines Suspend Flights to Beirut Air France and Lufthansa said on Monday they stopped their Beirut service in the wake of threats by Israel to avenge an attack on a navy gem by Hezbollah from Lebanon.

An official representing Lufthansa shared that such operations would cease through August 5, because of ‘current developments in the Middle East. ’ Similarly, both Air France and the low-cost affiliate Transavia France claimed to have suspended flights between the French airports and Beirut for Monday and Tuesday because of the ‘security situation’ in Lebanon.

Further, Royal Jordanian, the main carrier of Jordan, scrapped at least two of its routine services to Beirut.

This comes after Israel declared its intention to reciprocate after a rocket fire from Lebanon in which twelve youths were killed in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday. Israel accused Iran’s proxy, the Hezbollah movement of Lebanon, of being behind it, although the latter vehemently denied the accusation.

The recent event has produced further debate regarding the possibility of the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict expansion to Lebanon.
