Golf Superstar McIlroy Aims for Olympic Glory: Biggest Challenge Yet

Rory McIlroy is chasing his little spirits for a recent major cumulative failure that might be tackled through optimal performance in the Paris Olympics this week. This year’s US Open could have been his shot at clinching a major title after he last won one in 2014 the Northern Irish professional golfer almost made it. McIlroy was narrowly defeated by this by one stroke to Bryson DeChambeau after missing two decisive putts in the last holes.

He also failed to make the top mark at the British Open organized at Troon. Initially, he refused the Olympics when golf was included back in the Olympic Games in the year 2016. He was just edged out of medal contention in Tokyo, finishing 7th in a playoff for the bronze which, went to Pan Cheng-Tsung of the Chinese Taipei.

McIlroy has won 17 further PGA Tour titles since his last major victory which incorporates three tour championships and the players championship. But he says, it would be a feather in his cap if he wins an Olympic gold. ”If that happens it would be the achievement of the year if not in a decade of my experiences,” he told the planners and reporters.

At Le Golf National, we are expecting a strong lineup from the competitors in the upcoming tournament which is the Ryder Cup of 2018. Scottie Scheffler has a chance, he is world number one and this will be his first Olympics, Xander Schauffele on the other hand has recent wins and is the defending champion.

According to the list, eight out of the top ten golfers will be in Paris resulting in stiff competition. Spanish golfer Jon Rahm has been among the few who have supported this idea of the best players only being in the mix.

As for further plans, McIlroy stands for the use of mixed team competitions in the future Olympics, which he said would turn the atmosphere into an interesting one. He will begin his search for yellow metal with Scheffler and Ludvig Åberg of Sweden while Schauffele companion Rahm and Viktor Hovland of Norway in another bracket.
