This is following Australian swimming coach Michael Palfrey’s recent declaration for South Korean swimmer Kim Woo-min than his own compatriots. His comments that were made where he said MAGD, wishing Kim good luck in the 400-meter final against two Australians, Short Sam and Winnington Elijah caused a lot of controversy.
Val allowance headmaster Rohan Taylor urged Palfrey as still disappointing and un-Australian although he did not deport the player. Measures Taylor took were aimed at the best interest of the 41-member swimming team he had to contemplate the disturbance Palfrey’s removal could cause.
Palfrey also trained other Australian swimmers including Zac Incerti, Abbey Connor, and Alex Perkins and also worked with Kim during his Brisbane training session. Though he claimed to support Kim, the decision to retain Palfrey was made after consultation with the athletes and members of the staff.
Australian chef de mission Anna Meares supported Taylor’s decision saying it was done with the intention of benefiting the lot and the athletes.
