Ahmed Durrani a teenage swimming prodigy is hopeful for the development of swimming in Pakistan and aims at directly qualifying for the 2028 Olympics. He swam at the Paris Olympics in 200m freestyle that he came to at the age of 18; he came at the rear of the rivals in his heat with 1:58:67; it was not the best of the waters that the man could produce.
Jehanara Nabi, 20 years, also took part in the 200m freestyle for women where she accumulated third place in heat 3 and 26th in the overall ranking. The two athletes were competing under the universality spots.
In a post-Olympic interview in 2000, Durrani expressed that it was his dream to be in the Olympics commentating and going through it, he said it was surreal. “It as though time stood still and I heard my own pulse,’ he said.
Still, Durrani does not give up and seeks to encourage young Pakistanis to take up swimming as well. He urged that Sh trial and improve the welfare amenities, the tools, and the appreciation of swimming as a sport as well as a necessity in society.
Moving to the future, Durrani, who has been swimming for 15 years, aims at further enhancement, also, there are intentions to try out different types of swimming. “I’m young and there is still many opportunities that I need to try out,” he muttered.
In other sports news, Kishmala Talar & Gulfam Joseph are scheduled to shoot in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at Chateauroux Shooting Center. Talar was 31st in the women’s event and Joseph was 22nd in the men’s event qualifying for the final but was disqualified. Both Arshad Nadeem and Faiqa Riaz have also increased their preparations for the fields.
