Speaking of the specific incidents, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk has stated that Google is faking the results leaving the Republican presidential nominee and the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump out of search. Musk’s assertions came after the results of the search by the phrase “President Donald” displayed the suggestions of “President Donald Duck” and “President Donald Regan” instead of Trump.
Musk tweeted a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) and asked, “Wow, Google has a search ban on President Donald Trump! Election interference?” He went further to caution, “They are very silly, if Google is involved in the US Presidential election they are getting themselves into a lot of trouble”
The post created a storm on social media, everybody was busy commenting and sharing what he/she saw on the post. One user wrote “Google is owned by Democrats” while the other stated “I’m sure they will say that you are suppressing the Democrats, but my app shows everyone – Democrat and Republican – getting on their soapbox and stating what they want to express Their opinions,” Nonetheless, some of the users complained to Musk of the bias demonstrating what they claimed to be the suppression of tweets by GOP. Users commented by one of them noting; “You have a search ban on so many accounts you don’t like What’s the difference?”
The controversy arises mainly due to a closely related contentious presidential campaign between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. A Wall Street Journal poll shows that 49% of the voters support Trump while 47% of the voters support Harris. The poll reveals that the representation of African Americans in the poll sample has risen with their support for the Harris campaign and that general Democrats are more interested in the Harris campaign in comparison to before.
Google has not reacted to the claims made by Musk up to this date. The situation remains the same and more overviews are expected.
