FIA summons FBR Member Operations

Mir Badshah Khan Wazir, the Member Operations of the Federal Board of Revenue has been asked by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to appear before it in accordance with the joint investigation into cases of corruption, Tender wire, bribery and embezzlement issues associated with the Large Taxpayer Office (LTO) in Lahore.

Sources reveal the FIA has also directed the FBR’s focal person to compel the set officials to appear including Mir Badshah Khan Wazir. A senior officer inquired from FBR that Wazir already has provided his reply to the FIA.

In FIA notice, it is written “It seems that you (Mir Badshah Khan Wazir) have knowledge about the facts and circumstances of case lying and corrupt practices and fraud including involving cheque bouncing, lure/receivable amount in illegal tax refunds to the Large Taxpayer Office Lahore by the officials of LTO Lahore Moreover, you are directed to report Anti-Money laundering circle FIA in person for necessary clarification about your stance and production

The notice also sought records of large taxpayer companies of the LTO Lahore zone who received refunds over the last five years CNIC original and any other relevant record with him.

Earlier, the FBR had terminated four top executive officials due to various scandal charges linked to a tax refund scandal running into millions of the local currency. The FIA has now started this matter.
