With the increasing number of Mpox in the country the government has scheduled an important meeting on Tuesday to discuss possibilities for its prevention. The meeting will be led by Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed who also serves as the coordinator for the prime minister health sector; it is expected that all the provincial health ministers, directors general of health, NIH, and NCOC representatives will be in attendance.
In the course of the meeting, there will be a discussion concerning the current situation in Monkeypox and the measures that have so far been taken concerning the outbreak. It is also envisaged that issues related to the procurement of the Mpox vaccine will also be forwarded for consideration.
In Pakistan, The Ministry of Health has verified the fourth strand of Monkeypox in a 47-year-old man from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, isolated previously after he arrived from the Gulf region.
Said Dr. Mukhtar Bharath, National Coordinator for Health: Current airport screening systems are fully operational and the government is keeping a very good liaison with provincial authorities to implement proper and timely preventive measures. The Ministry of Health remains fully aware of the occurrence to be able to take appropriate measures to deal with further occurrences.
As a result, the NIH released an alert to the national and global healthcare professionals and the general populace encouraging serious surveillance, better tests, and astringent preventive measures. People are advised to remain aware, wash their hands, and seek medical attention when necessary should signs of the virus appear.
