The young activist fighting climate change Greta Thunberg was detained by the police of Denmark on the occasion of her participation in an ongoing protest at the centre of Copenhagen in response to the continued military operations involving Israel in the Gaza Strip. Which happened, outside of a University of Copenhagen building, and yielded six arrests, among which was Thunberg herself, who later posted a video to Instagram of her in handcuffs and wearing a keffiyeh shawl.

Thunberg added that the protest was to compel the University to STOP collaborating with Israelis especially the academic institutions due to worsening situations in Palestine. Instead, the demonstrators took over the university building and called for an academic boycott of Israel until Persad obeyed.

The protest has emerged at a time when Israeli forces remain conducting bombardment in the Gaza Strip with high civilian casualties and has been criticized by the international community. Instead, the activists pledged to sustain the campaign until the university severed its connections with Israeli universities.
