Hamas has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deliberately trying to prevent a peace agreement regarding Gaza. This came after Netanyahu said that Hamas “rejected everything” in ongoing talks for a truce.
Tensions are rising as Netanyahu faces criticism for not reaching a deal to release hostages. Recently, Israeli authorities recovered the bodies of six hostages from a Gaza tunnel, increasing pressure on him to act.
Hamas and Israel Disagree on Border Control
One of the main issues in the negotiation is control over the Philadelphi Corridor, the border area between Egypt and Gaza. Netanyahu insists that Israel must control the area to stop weapons smuggling to Hamas. However, Hamas wants Israel to completely withdraw from the region, accusing Netanyahu of using the issue to block the truce.
Hamas Rejects New Proposals
Hamas claims they have already agreed to a truce plan months ago, as proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden. They argue that no new deal is necessary. In a statement, Hamas warned people not to fall for what they call Netanyahu’s “tricks” to prolong the violence.
Public Pressure on Netanyahu
Many Israeli citizens are frustrated with the ongoing conflict, especially those with loved ones still held hostage. Anet Kidron, whose community was attacked by Hamas on October 7, expressed the desperation felt by many, saying, “We are just waiting for them to come back alive, not in coffins.”
International Response
The international community is also getting involved, with the U.S. and other key players pushing for a ceasefire. However, mediator countries like Qatar have accused Israel of spreading misinformation to delay peace talks.
As the violence continues, the death toll keeps rising, with most casualties being civilians, including women and children. Both sides remain deeply divided, and it remains uncertain when a peace agreement will be reached.
