Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza: 61 Killed Amid Ongoing Conflic

In the last 48 hours, Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 61 people in Gaza, as the conflict with Hamas continues. Among the casualties were displaced individuals taking shelter in two former schools. The airstrikes targeted Hamas gunmen, according to Israeli forces. Meanwhile, Palestinian resistance groups, including Hamas, fired rockets and explosives at Israeli forces.

Despite international mediation efforts, a ceasefire remains elusive. Mass protests have erupted in Israel, with citizens demanding the government secure the release of 101 hostages still held by Hamas, following the execution of six others. Diplomatic talks led by the US are ongoing but face significant challenges.

Separately, amidst the fighting, the UN has begun a polio vaccination campaign in Gaza, aiming to vaccinate 640,000 children after the detection of the region’s first polio case in 25 years. Despite difficulties, the campaign has already reached over half of the children in the southern and central parts of Gaza.
