JI to Protest Against IPPs, KE Tomorrow

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has declared that the long previously scheduled sit-in will be held at the Sindh Governor House in Karachi on Saturday. The planned protest was for Wednesday, July 31st however, due to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh at the hands of Israel in Tehran the protest was to be moved forward.

The rescheduled protest has the agenda of opposing IPPs and K-Electric along with two other issues which are historic inflation rate and sour taxation policies. JI is asking the government to scrap the IPP agreement, rewrite the K-Electric license, and initiate the process of controlling inflation and taxes.

JI Karachi Chief, Munem Zafar, also commenting on the sit-in, clarified, “It will be a follow-up and reinforcement of the major protest, and the goal shall include the termination of the IPPs contract and the denial of license to K-Electric for resisting inflation.
