Main events retain vote share

Main political events largely retained their vote shares in each nationwide and provincial assemblies throughout the Common Elections 2024 (GE-2024), in line with a report by the Free and Truthful Election Community (FAFEN).

In its report, ‘GE-2024 Nationwide and Provincial Elections: Votes Polled and Occasion Shares in Votes and Seats’, FAFEN analysed the favored vote shares of key political events and their corresponding seats within the nationwide and provincial assemblies.

Throughout GE-2024, PTI, PML-N, and PPP collectively secured 68 per cent of the vote share for the Nationwide Meeting and 62 per cent for the 4 Provincial Assemblies. By comparability, these events had obtained 69 per cent and 61 per cent vote shares, respectively, in GE-2018, and 65 per cent and 58 per cent in GE-2013.

The report highlights that the variety of votes polled for Nationwide Meeting constituencies was marginally increased than these polled for provincial assemblies.

A partial cause for the distinction was the postponement of elections in a single nationwide (NA-8 Bajaur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and three provincial constituencies (PK-22 Bajaur-IV and PK-91 Kohat-II in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and PP-266 Rahimyar Khan-XII in Punjab). FAFEN’s evaluation reveals that not one of the main events secured an absolute majority of their respective strongholds, even the place they’ve shaped governments following the overall elections.

In Ok-P, PTI garnered 45 per cent of the vote in Nationwide Meeting contests, with the remaining 55 per cent break up amongst different events.

JUI-P obtained 16 per cent, PML-N secured 10 per cent, ANP and independents every secured seven per cent, and different events collectively accounted for 15 per cent.

A intently contested race unfolded between PTI and PML-N in ICT and Punjab. In ICT, PTI secured 33 per cent of the vote, narrowly surpassing PML-N’s 31 per cent, whereas independents captured 20 per cent.

The TLP obtained 5 per cent, PPPP 4 per cent, and different events collectively accounted for seven per cent. In Punjab, PTI led with 35 per cent of the Nationwide Meeting vote, narrowly edging out PML-N, which garnered 34 per cent.

TLP adopted with seven per cent, PPPP with six per cent, independents with 14 per cent, and different events with 5 per cent.

In Sindh, PPP secured 46 per cent of the nationwide vote, adopted by the GDA with 12 per cent, PTI and independents every garnered 9 per cent, MQM-P secured eight per cent, and different smaller events collectively accounted for 16 per cent.

Balochistan exhibited probably the most fragmented voting sample, with regional events and independents securing 35 per cent and 16 per cent of the nationwide vote respectively.
