Martial Arts Legend Cheng Pei-pei Dies at 78

Cheng Pei-pei, the martial arts actress who starred in several kung-fu movies and in Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon” has died at the age of 78 in the San Francisco Bay Area. She passed on at the tender age of fifty-two due to a degenerative brain disease.

Early Stardom and Career

Cheng’s birth took place in Shanghai in 1946, and he was a leading actor and a figure in Hong Kong cinema from the sixties having his affiliation with the renowned Shaw Brothers studio house. She became famous with her scenes in the 1966 movie ‘Come Drink With Me’ and later became one of the most recognizable faces in the Martial Arts and Action genre.

In the 1970s, Cheng and her family moved to San Francisco where she continued her raising four children, as well as business. Her children also ventured into the entertainment industry later in life

A Resurgence in the 2000s

Cheng’s career began to rise again in the year 2000 when she was featured in the movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” where she played the nasty role of Jade Fox oversaw her recognition from the international market. She continued to act in various films, including “Naked Weapon,” “Street Fighter: …Emerging Categories of Chinese Popular Cinema – Kung Fu, The Legend of Chun Li, and Disney’s live-action Mulan.

Legacy and Family

Cheng Pei-Pei is unforgettable, she can be regarded as the trailblazer of martial arts film history and inspire many people. Apart from her four children, and grandchildren, she left behind. Her family has asked for no flowers but rather donations to the BSN which was dear to Cheng who had given her brain for testing to the organization.
