Pakistan has been boiling up due to price hikes of petroleum products but Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik appeals for calm and dialogue.
Today’s Musadik Malik, the Minister of State for Petroleum, has seemed to call on political leaders not to stir any commotion and instead hold their tongue and allow the government to function properly. Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Malik shared two contrasting visions of Pakistan: One is of despair and turbulence, the other of optimism of youth cherishing the vision of a better tomorrow. He pointed out specific people as the ones who prevented the progress from happening, they didn’t want the country to progress.
To this end, Malik pointed to the ‘huge relief’ that the Punjab government says it had assured in electricity bills that were initially laid down by the federal government. He said the relief package will affect 98% of the households that use electricity, up to 500 units; those using up to 200 units will get a bigger rebate. He pointed out that the scheme benefits all the citizens save the Oil rich and referred to attempts made to ensure that gas prices remain affordable.
For that, as people of Pakistan and citizens of the world cheered for May 9, Malik insisted that all those who supported and financed terrorism must be held to account. He called for peace and asked political actors not to stir trouble. Malik called upon them to come to the table and talk because the country should be allowed to move on.
