Nationwide Strike Called by Traders Over Soaring Taxes and Power Bills

Amjad Baloch, Head of All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran claimed that business houses all over Pakistan would down their shutters on 28th August, 2028 to protest high taxes and soaring electricity tariffs. Addressing the Quetta Press Club, Baloch said this was the strike of All Pakistan Anjuman Tajiran and no political party including Jamaat-e-Islami had anything to do with it.

According to Baloch, this strike could result in a massive one he gave an example of the strike that the business community once orchestrated during the rule of General Pervaiz Musharraf for seventeen days. He also pledged his support to the people of Chaman, a border town with the neighboring Afghanistan where much of its population relies on cross-border trading due to the lack of other business.

Similarly, during the press briefing, Abdul Rahim Kakar president of Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajiran Balochistan complained over recent property tax notices issued by FBR to the business tycoons. He also demanded the authorities to reopen for 1400 daily wages workers who were fired recently from Quetta Metropolitan Corporation. This is part of a larger protest in which the planned shutter-down strike will also occur on the 28th of August in Balochistan.
