On Wednesday, Ukraine’s military said that Russia again fired missiles and drones at Kyiv and Lviv — a western city in Ukraine. This comes after a terrible incident the previous day when Russia targeted a military institute in Poltava leaving 50 people dead and hundreds injured in the worst single attack this year.
On Wednesday a few explosions were reported near Kyiv and Lviv which were said to be air defense systems at work. Ukrainian military authorities said their defense structures were operating to counter the invasions.
The head of the Lviv region, Maksym Kozytskyi, said in a Telegram statement that residential buildings in Lviv had been affected. The city acts as the regional capital and this has not been spared from the strikes. In anticipation of possible strikes, Poland has put up aircraft patrols in its airspace for the third time in eight days.
“This is another very busy night for the entire air defense system in Poland because of the observed activity of the long-range aviation of the Russian Federation carrying out strikes,” Poland’s Command stated on X.
In the last ten days, Russia has increased the rate of attacks on Ukraine through the use of missiles and drones. Some of the Russian military bloggers believe that these attacks are a reprisal for Kyiv’s recent forays into Russia.
The Russian government has not yet spoken on the Poltava attacks or the latest strikes on Kyiv and Lviv. Moscow often states that the attacks it launches are directed at the military infrastructures, energy facilities, and transportation systems in Ukraine but not the civilians.
According to Ukraine’s air force, the entire nation has remained under air raid warnings since around 0100 GMT on Wednesday. It has also warned of other prospective missile strikes on the Lviv area of Ukraine.
