Speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day mango festival at MNSUA, South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Fuad Hashim Rabbani stressed the need for the collaboration of research bodies and universities to boost mango production.
Rabbani said that mangoes have a high potential to earn foreign exchange by exporting and emphasized enhancing production. He indicated that the enhancement of interaction between academic and research intuitions could significantly help this effort. Also, the need to pack the mangoes properly to cater to the market requirements while stressing the necessity of taking good care of mangoes.
MNSUA Vice Chancellor Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed Rajwana stated that due to such efforts of the university, there has been development on the cultivation of small mango trees of more than one thousand acreage which has led to an increment in production.
Saqib Ali Ateel, the South Punjab Agriculture Secretary while describing the trench and raised bed execution, stated, the cultivation of mangoes over a wider area. He also emphasized the aspect of water management as to the ways in which it was needed in the process of growing mangoes.
