Starlink Compliance with a Brazilian Court to Shut Down X

Starlink, a satellite broadband company owned by Elon Musk, said on Tuesday that it had agreed to adhere to an order from Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes to restrict public access to the social media platform X in the country.

In a statement on X, Starlink confirmed it has sought an injunction from Brazil’s Supreme Court against Moraes’ directive, stating that this freezes: StarLink’s money and bars financial transactions in Brazil, all of which it has called a “gross illegality”.

As much as we have been subjected to unfair treatment, which included the freezing of assets, we are implementing the order that informed the blockage of X in Brazil, the statement said.

Starlink stressed that it is seeking all possible legal ways together with other persons, who consider that the recent decisions of the judge violated the Brazilian constitution.

Starlink, an affiliate of SpaceX had previously disobeyed an order by Moraes to block any internet service that had access to X within Brazil leading to worse relations between the company and the authorities of Brazil.

It got worse as Brazil’s telecommunications regulator warned SpaceX’s Starlink of sanctions devoid of legalizing the contentious banning of X in the country by the Supreme Court.
