Turkey ski resort lodge hearth leaves 10 useless

A fireplace that broke out early Tuesday morning at a ski resort lodge in northwestern Turkey has claimed the lives of a minimum of 10 folks and left 32 others injured, based on Turkey’s Inside Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

The blaze started at 3:27 AM within the 12-storey Grand Kartal Lodge, situated within the Kartalkaya resort about 170 kilometers northwest of Ankara. The lodge, which has picket cladding, was housing a minimum of 230 folks throughout a two-week college vacation peak interval.

“There have been no alarms. There have been no hearth stairs,” the survivor stated. “It was chaos.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his condolences for the victims of the hearth, saying on X, “I pray to God for mercy upon our residents who misplaced their lives within the hearth. I want a speedy restoration to the injured affected by this tragic accident.”

An investigation into the incident has been launched, with Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc confirming that six prosecutors have been assigned to the case. Authorities are involved that the construction could also be prone to collapsing.

The injured have been relocated to close by accommodations, and efforts to assist the affected people proceed. Authorities have warned the general public of potential additional fatalities as rescue operations proceed.
