Turkish FM Hakan Fidan meets Syria’s new chief in Damascus

Turkiye’s international minister Hakan Fidan met with Syria’s new chief Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus on Sunday, Ankara’s international ministry mentioned.

A video launched by the Anadolu state information company confirmed the 2 males greeting one another.

No particulars of the place the assembly occurred within the Syrian capital had been launched by the ministry.

Fidan had introduced on Friday that he deliberate to journey to Damascus to satisfy Syria’s new leaders, who ousted Syria’s strongman Bashar al-Assad after a lightning offensive.

Turkiye’s spy chief Ibrahim Kalin had earlier visited the town on December 12, only a few days after Assad’s fall.

Kalin was filmed leaving the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, surrounded by bodyguards, as broadcast by the personal Turkish channel NTV.

Turkiye has been a key backer of the opposition to Assad for the reason that rebellion in opposition to his rule started in 2011.

Apart from supporting numerous insurgent teams, it has welcomed Syrian dissenters and hundreds of thousands of refugees.
