Fazlur Rehman: Engaging KP and Balochistan Communities Key to Restoring Security

The chief of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman demanded the National Assembly expand its interaction with the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan to bring the troubled areas back into the path of peace. His call for dialog was made at a time when terrorist attacks increased– especially in these provinces, on August 26 73 people died. He insisted that there was an opportunity to work with the local communities to solve issues that caused increased tension on the streets.

Rehman claimed that, in KP and Balochistan, the influence of government declined considerably and the militants are ruling over some territory, including extracting taxes and moving around with sophisticated weapons. He reported that he was let down and that parliament has been engaged in political battles while there is a terrorism crisis.

Fazlur Rehman also complained over retirement from politics, politicians like Zahid Khan and Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, while pointing out that the new political leaders were not well experienced enough to solve issues affecting the country.
